Are there Non-Hormonal or Non-Systemic hormone treatments for menopause issues?
The idea - Take individual medications for specific symptoms, alone or together. This of course avoids the hormone-associated risks, namely blood clots (for some forms of estrogen) and increased breast cancer risk (for progesterone)
To prevent brittle bones without estrogen-Take a “Bisphosphonate” Like Boniva, Fosamax, or Prolia to treat or prevent bone loss
To decrease hot flashes and/or mood swings and/or isomnia- take medications to prevent mood swings, insomnia, and hot flashes, such as SSRI meds, Lunesta, Paxil, and/or Lamictal or others. Many options are available.
To prevent hair loss and/or hair thinning-Take Minoxidil to treat or prevent hair loss, use oral pills or use topical cream on the scalp. The topical version is available over the counter, the pill form is prescription only. Or-Use a red-light therapy hat to treat or prevent hair thinning, and yes there is real data that this works and it seems to have no harm.
To treat vaginal dryness and painful six-Use vaginal estrogen cream to treat vaginal thinning and painful sex (OK this is estrogen, but it isn’t absorbed into the bloodstream, so it doesn't have any estrogen risks, so it doesn’t “count” as estrogen- and you don’t have to take it with progesterone, so it sort of counts as non-hormonal)
